Stan Scisclowski (1923-2014)
Stan Scislowski was born on September 13th, 1923, and joined the Canadian military at 20 years of age to participate in WWII. Stan spent a few years training in Stratford, Ontario, where he would then be sent to Italy to be a part of the Perth 11th infantry regiment during the Italian campaign. Stan spent two years of fighting in Italy where he would be in one of his first major battles, Monte Cassino.
Monte Cassino was where the allies were pushing to liberate Rome. Stan's emotions were racing through his mind as the real possibility of him dying know the battlefield became a reality at that moment. After the battle Stan decided to write a letter stating “surviving a battle was a mixture of luck and a miracle”. Scislowski passed away on March 23rd, 2014.
